Cynthia Hartling and Lisa Taliano's paintings look different but their intention is the same: to reconcile subjective experience with the way that the world is, in-itself, through painting. The sustained tension between the subjective and objective, the knowable and unknowable, the self and the thing-in-itself, produces a space which gives rise to meaning and creativity, and finds form in the fusion of the two within their work.

Cynthia Hartling, utilizes the medium of paint, to make tangible both the interior/exterior world she lives in, referencing painting’s past to question and engage in the creation of a personal world of form, color, light, and space.  Cynthia received a BFA at Cooper Union, NY, and also studied at the Istituto Statale d’Arte in Urbino, Italy and SUNY New Paltz.  She has been the recipient of the Milton and Sally Michel Avery endowed residency for visual arts at Yaddo, the Barbara White endowed painting award at Vermont Studio Center, and visual artist fellowships at Fundacion Valparaiso, Spain, Art Farm, Nebraska, and Jentel, in Wyoming.  Her work has appeared in numerous exhibitions throughout New York and London.  She lives and works in New York City.

Lisa Taliano's work is informed by direct observation of nature, and a focused awareness of the content of consciousness.  Lisa comes to painting from philosophy. Thinking about painting is as important to her as making paintings. She studied philosophy at Indiana University, Bloomington, and in 1990 completed an MA Thesis on Van Gogh and Nietzsche. In 1994, Lisa received an MFA in Painting from Boston University where she studied with John Walker, John Moore, Alfred Leslie and Yvonne Jacquette. While a student she received a Directors Award, Constatin Alajalov Scholarship, and a NAN Traveling Scholarship.   Lisa's work has been exhibited in group and solo shows throughout the United States, and is included in national and international collections.  She currently lives and works in New York City.
